New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance
Published by The Writing Works Group
Fate brings them together. Fame & lies keep them apartOne truth remains...

She's become the Paly High girl with the most tragic story...
At 17, Tally Landon just wants to graduate and leave for New York to pursue ballet. Her best friend Marla convinces her to attend one last party--a college party--where she can be among strangers and evade the whisperings about her heartbreaking loss that follows her everywhere she goes. While at the party, she meets Lincoln Presley, Stanford's famous baseball wonder and has a little fun at his expense--when she lies about her age and who she really is--intent on being someone else for the night and escaping her tragic story.

His only focus is baseball, but he can't forget the girl he saved on Valentine's Day...

At 22, Lincoln Presley's star is on the rise; he's about to finish at Stanford and expected to be taken early in Major League Baseball's upcoming draft. His cousin's party serves as a welcome distraction. But then, he sees the girl from Valentine's Day he saved from that horrific car accident; and he can't quite hide his disappointment when she appears to look right through him and not remember him at all. He vows to learn her name at least before he leaves. What's the harm in getting to know this girl? What's the worst that can happen?

Fate soon tests these two star-crossed lovers in all kinds of ways...

And yet, despite the lies being told to protect the other, and the trappings of fame that continually separate them, and in lieu of the deception by those they've come to trust the most; one truth remains.

EXCERPT
Excerpt#4 from This Much Is True by Katherine Owen – Chapter Seven (later in chapter)

He opens his eyes at my somewhat involuntary movements and tugs at my hair and pulls me toward him. He gently kisses my forehead. His lips travel down the side of my face and then reach the sensitive spot at my neck. I practically melt at his subtle seduction at a soul level, while my body heats up under his careful ministrations. Oh, God. Why is he doing this to me?
“We used to have a ranch when I was about eight years old,” he says so softly that I strain to hear him. “My dad liked to train wild horses. He always said it just takes patience and time, and that you don’t tame a horse as much as you come to understand it.”
“Am I the wild horse in this scenario?” I ask faintly. My pulse races out of control. I bury my face into the dampness of his shirt thoroughly embarrassed by my unusual emotional breakdown. I catch my breath and hold it and will myself to pull it together.
“I’m not sure,” he says. “But you definitely need saving.”
“Does that line work with all the girls you bring here?”
“I don’t bring girls here.”
“Oh.” I slide out of his arms and stand up, intent on achieving balance on a physical level as well as an emotional one because for some inexplicable reason I already know that it’s vital to initiate some kind of distance from this guy. He scares me on some deep cosmic level because I like him too much already, and, as it is, I have more than enough fears to battle on a daily basis. “I should go.”
“What if you didn’t? Go?” Linc pauses for a full minute and seems to just draw me in with his kind face.
He’s good-looking. At a detrimental level. The kind of guy you would be seen in public with and most girls would cattily be saying: “Why her? Why did he chooseher?” I catch my lower lip between my teeth, embarrassed at the calculating assumptions I’ve made about him in such a short amount of time. We’ve gone from the prospect of a one-night stand to a relationship. The first I often employ, and the second I will never entertain. Ever.
It dawns on me that I’ve been staring at him again. His eyes are incredible, and I get lost in them again because there’s a part of me that clearly wants to jump into the alluring deep end with him and another part of me that uncharacteristically hesitates mightily. I can’t look away from him. It’s disconcerting and enthralling at the same time.
I take in air in the faint hope of clearing away all these wayward thoughts of him. Then I absently wipe at my face with an embarrassed hand wave in the next. I’m supposed to be Holly—perfect and sweet, not Tally—bitchy and on edge. What am I doing here? And Icried in front of him. I haven’t cried since the day we buried Holly.
“I should go.” I attempt to smile and extend my arm around the great room.“Really. This has been…illuminating.
He raises an eyebrow, surprised by my exceptional vocabulary, perhaps.
Me, too.
He reaches for my hand and pulls me to him. I experience this inevitable solace as his arms go around me and hold me there.
“Don’t go, Holly,” he whispers.
And then he kisses me.
So I stay because when a girl wants to be someone else, she can be.

Atlas by Becca C Smith Blitz and Giveaway!

Book Description:
Kala Hicks is part of a covert elite military team that answers directly to the President of the United States. But during an emergency mission aboard Air Force One, Kala is shocked to discover that the real threat is none other than the President himself. Defying her commanding officer, Jack Norbin, Kala takes the shot, and her life changes forever.
The moment the President is killed, a supernatural force speaks to Kala, telling her that she has to commit one act of atrocity every four days… or the world will end. Thrown into a reality she never could have imagined, Kala faces off with creatures of legend; from demons determined to make her fail and plunge the Earth into chaos, to angels who don’t trust her to do the job and are willing to kill her to claim it for themselves.
Pitted against the forces of good and evil, Kala must choose whether to save the world by doing the unthinkable, or sit back and let it burn. And four days later, she’ll have to do it again.
Excerpt End of Chapter 3:
Very carefully, Jack opened the door that led to the President’s office.
What awaited them was terrifying.
President Jareth Wilton stood behind his desk. He was wearing a vest that held five grey bars of C-4 wired into a bomb. Wilton was a tall man, well over six feet with stark black hair and a long face. He was a young President, only fifty years old, but he looked like he’d aged twenty years since the last time Kala had seen him at a press conference, with dark rings under his eyes and worry lines on his forehead.
But his smile was what made the scene surreal and horrific. His thin lips were grinning as if he’d just climbed Mt. Everest. President Wilton stared directly at Jack as the door swung open the rest of the way. “I figured it out! I figured out how to break it! No one will ever have to do what I’ve had to do again! Do you realize what this means?” Kala knew then and there that the man was cracked. Figured what out? Break what? He was rambling like a mad man.
But the more frightening moment came when Jack responded back to Wilton. “Killing yourself is impossible. People have tried that in the past.”
Not only was President Wilton talking crazy, but apparently Jack knew his language and was responding accordingly.
Kala noticed that Wilton’s eyes lit up when Jack spoke. “You’re the one they sent to replace me.” Jack nodded. What? Kala was seriously confused. Kala spoke up, “What’s going on Jack?” Replace him for what?
Jack didn’t acknowledge Kala or the rest of the team, which was shifting uncomfortably behind him.
Wilton shook his head, serious. “You can’t do it. You have to let me detonate this bomb. We have to crash the plane! It’s the only way to stop it!”
“You can’t stop it!” Jack yelled back. “I can and I will!” Wilton talked into an earpiece. “NOW!”
The plane nose-dived.
Everyone jolted forward and stumbled from the force of it.
Jack barked orders, “Lali get up to the Flight Deck and by any means necessary take over this plane!”
Lali paused for a second, she looked more confused than Kala felt, but after a moment to gain her bearings as the plane was falling fast, she managed to high-tail it out of the room and up to the Flight Deck.
Kala was sure they’d hit ground at any moment.
Jack aimed his gun at the President’s head.
Wilton was frantic. He ducked behind his large oak desk that was bolted to the ground.
“You can’t kill me! You’ll ruin everything!” Wilton yelled.
Jack turned to Kala and Derek. “No one shoots him but me!”
Kala kind of nodded, but she was in shock at the fact that they were about to flatten a part of the capital with Air Force One. She really didn’t care what Jack was saying. She couldn’t let President Wilton set off that bomb and kill thousands.
Jack shot at the desk, trying to hit the president, but he didn’t come close.
Only Kala could make a shot like that and not get them all killed from shooting a hole through the plane.
Kala and Derek made eye contact. Kala could tell Derek was thinking the same thing. He whispered so only Kala could hear, “Do it.”
Kala’s nod was barely perceptible.
Jack saw her and his eyes went wide. “Kala STOP!”
Kala shrugged. “I can’t let him do this, Jack. I’m sorry.”
Only the top of Wilton’s head was showing.
It was enough.
Kala took her shot.

Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein

All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.

Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?

REVIEW: Frostbite by Lynn Rush

Amanda gives a whole new meaning to cool…

Amanda Smith is sick of getting chased from town-to-town. So when she lands in tiny Trifle, Arizona, she hopes it’s her last move for a long time. Despite hating the smallness of the town, she settles in and finds a best friend, and even a boyfriend. Normality at its finest.

But for a girl who can shoot snow from her hands and lift a two-ton truck over her head like a bag of feathers—normal is not an option.

The scientists who murdered her mother come barreling into Amanda’s quiet life. She must decide if she’ll run again or stay and fight. The price of either choice might be her life or the lives of those she’s come to love…

I actually was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this new series by Lynn Rush. My review is LONG over-do! For that, I'm sorry :(.

When I heard of this new series I was intrigued yet, unsure because it's not my normal type of read. Yes, I'm one of those vamp/shifter/werewolf girls.... I can't help it! LOL. Well, when I started reading it I was impressed. So much so, I was finished by that evening.Like my heading says, Frostbite leaves you frozen to your seat! Good thing I started reading it early or I would of been up half the night!

Mrs.Rush graces us with fabulous characters that you get to witness growing up, mentally. Amanda has lost so much in her young life, dealt with more fear than a normal kid would ever even imagine and finally decides enough, is enough!! She likes where she's at. Likes the people around her and makes the decision that it's time. Time to stand up, time to fight. With the help of her last remaining family member, her brother, can she keep up the battle and win her life back? Be as normal as possible? I'm not sure. I am sure that I will be anxious to find out though! I do hope to see a little more of her brother, though. :)

You can purchase it on Amazon for $1.99 right now HERE

REVIEW : Make Her Howl by Michelle Fox

Chloe is a null, a werewolf who can't change, and pack law says nulls can't live on pack land. As she prepares to leave the only home she's ever known, temptation and desire arrive on her doorstep in the form of Jackson, a darkly handsome alpha. He says he can bring her wolf, but she'll have to submit to him in ways she never imagined. Their union is rough and savage--Jackson is a wolf on a mission: He will make her howl...one way or another.

Make Her Howl is approximately 8,000 words in length and contains graphic sexual content. Page length varies due to ereader settings, but please understand this is a short story and not a novel. Short stories are the mini candy bars of fiction; little sweet nothings that melt too fast. That’s why you can never stop at just one!

I'm dealing with mixed feelings on this one. I like short stories, I even like erotica books. However, this one kind of left me saying "huh". I just felt the male character Jackson was lacking something. I can't exactly put my finger on it though. I really could see this story line re-done and made into a full length novel. The plots there and unique seeing I've never heard of a Null prior to this story. Maybe that's why I'm having such mixed feelings? Because it felt just too short. Not enough time to make you enjoy both characters the way they should be? See!!!!!!! I'm torn!
I do love the female character, Chloe's sassy attitude throughout the story.

It's free right now though, so you might as well give it a shot and form your own opinion!

Review: Significance by Shelly Crane

Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating - barely - and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.
Then she saves the life of Caleb and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.
They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive.
Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.

Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

Mrs. Crane gave you a lot in this book. Romance, action, family, little bit of fighting over the girl and even a little family rivalry.... The way the family works together, the morals they carry and the love that they show is refreshing. The idea of the clan rivalry was cool and interesting to see how each family clan is so different from each other. I think this book had a lot of possible potential.
I wanted to love this book, I really did. However, the whole having to be with each other non-stop or you suffer really got to me. That and having to release each other in order to walk away. Even though it works both ways it just made me feel like smoothering. There's no real dependency in them. I know, I know... It makes part of the story what it is and I respect that. Bravo to the author for trying to add a twist to the whole soul mate idea. It just didn't work for ME. I'm not saying it's not worth reading because honestly, if the above that I mentioned doesn't bother you, then you might just love it. I'll probably read book two in order to see how things work out and maybe, just maybe it will help me understand the way the author potrays these characters. I hope to be back again in book two with a better review for you!

My Review:
I was lucky enough to recieve an ARC copy of this book....yes, be jealous...oh sooooo jealous...LOL!

Well, just when you think it couldn't get any better than the previous books in this series it does! Talking about keeping things lively! A lot of series you see fade off as they get past the famous "trilogy" level. It's always a gamble after book three to continue! The Trilogy Curse maybe? However Stacey Rourke pulls off book four like the pro she is making Ascension my FAVORITE out of her series! I can't believe I said that!!! Yes! This one surpassed her others in my opinion! Sarcastic humor, sibling teases, character building, action packed, love story, allies and enemies oh my!!!!!

At one point I wanted to contact her at four in the morning and scream "What was that?!?!?! Why! Why would you do that?!?!?!  I managed to refrain...at least until about Nine A.M. Then it was fair yelling time! Sigh.... I'm still shaking my head in shock! I can't tell you, don't ask! Just.....just..... well, read it! You won't regret it! I was ticked off every time I was interrupted by someone while I read! I mean, REALLY? I know I'm suppose to work but don't they know what it's like to be truly immersed in a book? So, ahem, as I was saying! When it's released in November be sure to grab it! You won't regret it!

"Careful Gryphon girl. Your feline side is showing"
