ETERNAL DARKNESS

By:Natalie Hancock

Blurb
Layla, a twenty-one-year-old half-breed known as a dhampir, is incredibly beautiful and deadly. She drinks vampire blood for power and to stop the burning hunger.
The vampire academy is a hundred acres of land surrounded by high tech security to ensure that none enters or leaves. She is in the protection.
When she has lessons with the vampires, she struggles with her hunger and has to learn to trust them—a big issue for Layla because of her past, something she can neither forget nor run from. The past that haunts her dreams reminds her that she cannot hide as she lives her life in the academy.
Then there is Shade—an impossibly handsome vampire and Layla's one-on-one instructor. Desires she never knew rise whenever he looks at her. She cannot stop how her body reacts to his touch or how much she wants his body and his blood.
It is a forbidden lust that they share, one they must keep a secret from those around them or Layla risks everyone finding out who she really is.
Someone wants her dead. Layla's goals, deal with the vampires who hate dhampir's and keep herself alive. Can she do it?

TEASER

“I have a special ability that allows me to see the past, present and the future. The enemy cannot attack me if I know what their next attack is going to be and this is what I would like you all to try.” He turned to me and gestured me forward. “Miss Layla here will give you an example of what I can do and then she will show you how she can pin me.” I took my shirt off and Diaxon held his hand out for it. Once I had given it to him, I walked into the middle of the hall and stretched. Nikalye took off his leather jacket and handed it to Diaxon. He stood in front of me and bowed at the waist.
I attacked and he twisted around, grabbing my arm and slamming me into the ground. I groaned as he stepped back. I did not expect him to pin me so quickly. I flipped myself to my feet and turned around, kicking out my leg. He grabbed it and closed his fingers around my throat. He turned around and threw me across the room. I turned in midair, landing swiftly on my feet. Nikalye was on me in a second, tripping me up. I swept my legs out, but he jumped over them and backed away. I pushed myself to my feet and walked toward him, running my fingers through my hair and tying it back up. When I got close enough, I punched him and then kicked out when he blocked it. He blocked that also before pushing me into the wall, hard, and then slamming me into the floor where he pinned me.
The room cheered loudly. Nikalye stood and pulled me to my feet and turned to the others once more while I rubbed the back of my head and walked into the middle of the hall.
“Miss Layla could not get a hit on me because her thoughts are not blocked. Now she will demonstrate her skills and she will be the one to pin me.” Nikalye turned away from the disbelieving murmurs and motioned me to him.
I rolled my head on my shoulders before touching my toes. I walked forward and jumped in the air, sticking my left foot out. Nikalye blocked the attack, but I dropped to the floor and spun on my heels, knocking his feet out from underneath him. He fell to the floor, but rolled swiftly to his feet and kicked out. I back flipped quickly and then ran at Nikalye. He tried to grab me, but I twisted out of the way, wrapped my leg around his neck and spun around him, flipping him over. I jumped on him and pinned him...

Melissa's Review
4 Stars
Passion, Lust and Vampires, Yes Please! Eternal Darkness has all three and so much more.
The book centers around Layla. A Dhampir, which is a half human half vampire breed. She is currently being hidden in a vampire academy. The only problem? She feeds off of vampires instead of humans. It takes incredible strength and self control for her to maintain her seemingly care free attitude.
You get to know Layla for a bit and then Shade enters the picture. Now Shade sounds super yummy, so I can definitely see why Layla was so taken with him since they first layed eyes on each other. Their attraction to each other will give you tingles. You can't help but wonder if there is some reason why they are so attracted to each other.
Also we are told a little bit about Laylen's family life.  She has her father as her mother has died. And her trusted guard Nikalye. This book has a great story line, as well as some steam to heat things up. I honestly can't wait for the next installment. Would definitely suggest this book as a phenomenal read.

Down To You by M. Leighton and e-giveaway.

Book Description:
The scorching tale of one girl, two brothers and a love triangle…that’s not.
Olivia Townsend is nothing special.  She’s just a girl working her way through college so she can return home to help her father run his business.  She’s determined not to be the second woman in his life to abandon him, even if it means putting her own life on hold. To Olivia, it’s clear what she must do. Plain and simple.  Black and white.
But clear becomes complicated when she meets Cash and Nash Davenport.  They’re brothers.  Twins.
Cash is everything she’s always wanted in a guy.  He’s a dangerous, sexy bad boy who wants her in his bed at any cost.  He turns her insides to mush and, with just one kiss, makes her forget why he’s no good for her.
Nash is everything she’s ever needed in a guy.  He’s successful, responsible and intensely passionate.  But he’s taken.  Very taken, by none other than Marissa, Liv’s rich, beautiful cousin.  That doesn’t stop Olivia from melting every time he looks at her, though.  With just one touch, he makes her forget why they can never be together.
Black and white turns to shades of gray when Olivia discovers the boys are hiding something, something that should make her run as far and as fast as she can.  But it’s too late to run.  Olivia’s already involved.  And in love.  With both of them.
Both brothers make her heart tremble.  Both brothers set her body on fire.
She wants them both.
And they want her.
How will she ever choose between them?

Excerpt

Her grin fully forms and she releases my wrist to salute me.  “Sir, yes sir.”
I love how playful she is.  Such a nice change from Marissa, who’s always…well…who’s just not.
“Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about,” I say with a nod.  “A woman who knows her place is beneath me.  Oh, wait.  That didn’t sound right,” I tease.
She laughs.  “I’m beneath no man!” she replies harshly.  Then, with a mischievous quirk to her mouth, she adds, “At least not without dinner and a drink first.”
“Ohhhh, so that’s how it’s gonna be!  Because  there’s a McDonald’s right across the street.”
I offer her my arm and she curls her fingers around the inside of my elbow.  I know it’s ridiculous and juvenile, but I flex my bicep hoping she notices.
“Is that all it takes to get you to, ahem, come to attention?” she asks, suggestively sliding her eyes over me.
“I’m a twenty-five year old completing an internship at one of the most influential law firms in all of Atlanta.  McDonald’s would never do it for me.” I stop at the door and open it, gesturing for her to precede me.  “But now a look like the one you just gave me…”
Her cheeks turn a delicate pink and she drops her eyes shyly.  It makes me want to tear that dress off her with my teeth.
“Colonel, just what is it you’re insinuating?”
“Colonel?  A salute like that and all I get is a Colonel?”
“I don’t know.  Have you earned enough stripes to be a General?”
We stroll leisurely to my car.  “Depends on how you think someone earns their stripes.”  Two little dimples pop out on either side of her mouth where she’s trying to control her smile.
“Oh, I guess the same way most guys earn their stripes,” she says, swinging the red purse attached to her wrist, trying to act nonchalant.
“Baby, if that’s your definition, I’d be a four-star General.”

Hemlock Pond Excerpt and E-book giveaway

Book Description:
Megan Parker and her young son move into an old farmhouse with a haunted pond on the property. But they find there is more living in the pond than only fish and turtles. Far more…
Megan soon discovers the dark curse of Hemlock Pond will touch her family in ways she never could have imagined

Excerpt
HEMLOCK POND

At the corner where the trees jutted into the pasture, her light beam picked up a dark shape on the ground beside a clump of wilted buffalo grass.
Mighty sat crouched on his haunches, pasting his dull malevolent gaze her way.
“Get out of the way,” Megan snapped, resisting the urge to actually kick the animal. The very idea shocked her and she told herself it was the fear of losing her only child that made her think such a cruel thing.
She stepped around the tomcat and heard it snarl—gravelly and harsh—and immediately she thought of the dirt she’d seen caked in the cat’s mouth.
“Clean your teeth, Mighty,” she muttered in disgust, just as her beam illuminated three small silhouettes near the hemlocks by the pond.
            “Zach!” Megan shouted.
One of the figures turned and waved. He definitely wasn’t sleepwalking. The other pair—two girls—stood still.
            “I’m coming, Mommy.”
She could see Zach reach out to one of the girls, before running her way.
Megan should have felt an overwhelming sense of relief, but something about the two other children repulsed her—not unlike Mighty did—and she experienced a profound chill in the dead center of her chest. For a moment, she lost her breath, and worried she might be suffering a heart condition; then her lungs began working again. Only stress and fear, she tried to assure herself. She aimed the flashlight, ignoring the shaking in her hands. The beam passed over Zach and settled flush on the two girls. There was no doubt, these were the same pair she’d seen on Three Trestle Bridge. Definitely not an illusion tonight. What had the deputy said, no one seen wandering along Three Trestle Road. That’s because they’d walked into our back pasture.
More clearly now, she could see their clothing. Dressed alike as twins, both children’s dresses clung moist and stringy against their frail, thin bodies. Though dull and drab, the cotton fabric appeared it might have been a pretty ocean blue or even turquoise at some time in the past, and Megan could see remnants of tattered muddy lace trimming attached to the hemline which hung limply past their knobby knees. The light beam highlighted worn wool bonnets that covered their heads down to the tops of their ears. Straggly locks of listless hair lay plastered against their pale faces, so thin the strands could have been painted on with a finger brush. She thought of the clumps of hair she’d seen rising out of the muddy swirl in Hemlock Pond and experienced an ill-defined wave of terror. It was the same dirty-blond color! With macabre shock, she also realized both girls were barefoot. Absolutely nothing covered their tiny feet.
“You must be freezing,” she heard herself murmur, though inside she felt anything but sorrow. Only an intangible fear of the unknown.
I’ve seen them before. Clara Moorer’s old photograph.
The girls’ skin on their stick-thin arms looked as transparent and flimsy as wet tissue paper and she imagined she could visualize tendons and muscles and sinew overlying their bones.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice and giveaway!

This is brought to you by  AToMR Tours

Before 50 Shades of Grey & Bared To You There was….

THE SLEEPING BEAUTY CHRONICLES
Anne Rice
WITH A NEW PREFACE BY THE AUTHOR

People are much more comfortable today admitting and talking about what they enjoy in fiction and film. Much more. People are “out of the closet” about sexuality, period. The whole world knows women are sensual human beings as well as men. It’s no secret anymore that women want to read sexy fiction just as men do, and there’s a new frankness about the varieties of fantasies one might enjoy. So many clichés have been broken and abandoned. And this is a wonderful thing. – From Anne Rice’s new preface in the Sleeping Beauty Chronicles

Many people know that Anne Rice paved the way for blockbuster books about witches and vampires. What they may not realize, is that she is also the godmother of pleasure and pain erotica. When Anne Rice published her seminal SLEEPING BEAUTY CHRONICLES in the mid-eighties under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure, she couldn’t have predicted that not only would her erotic take on
the famous fairy tale become a huge underground hit and a mainstay for erotica fans for three decades, but it would also be a choice as ahead of the curve as her supernatural novels.

The series is more popular than ever, and with sadomasochistic erotica dominating bestseller lists, more and more people are discovering this classic trilogy. Now her books will be available for a whole new generation of erotica fans. All three books will hit stores nationwide on July 11th 2012, from Plume with a provocative new preface and gorgeous re-package

In the first book of the series; THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY (July 11, 2012/ISBN: 9780452281424/$16.00), Rice follows the traditional folktale of Sleeping Beauty, the spell cast upon the lovely young can only be broken by the kiss of a Prince. In Rice’s steamy retelling, The Prince awakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual conquer. His reward for ending the hundred years of enchantment is Beauty's complete and total enslavement to him. Rice’s exploration of the master and sexual slave fantasy is both elegant and arousing under her skillful pen.

BEAUTY’S PUNISHMENT (July 11, 2012/ISBN: 9780452281431/$16.00) continues her explicit, teasing exploration of the psychology of human desire. Now Beauty, having indulged in a secret and forbidden infatuation with the rebellious slave Prince Tristan, is sent away from the Satyricon-like world of the Castle. Sold at auction, she will soon experience the tantalizing punishments of "the village," as her education in love, cruelty, dominance, submission, and tenderness is turned over to the brazenly handsome Captain of the Guard. And once again Rice's tale of pleasure and pain dares to explore the most primal desires of the human heart.

In the final volume of Anne Rice's titillating erotic trilogy, BEAUTY’S RELEASE (July 11, 2012/ISBN: 9780452281455) , Beauty's adventures on the dark side of sexuality make her the bound captive of an Eastern Sultan and a prisoner in the exotic confines of the harem. As this voluptuous adult fairy tale moves toward conclusion, all Beauty's encounters with the myriad variations of sexual fantasy are presented in a sensuous, rich prose that intensifies this exquisite rendition of Love's secret world, and makes the Beauty series and incomparable study of erotica. In it, Anne Rice makes the forbidden side of passion a doorway into the hidden regions of the psyche and the heart.

THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY
Chapter 1 Excerpt
Anne Rice
Excerpt 1
The Prince had all his young life know the story of Sleeping Beauty, cursed to sleep for a hundred years, with her parents, the King and Queen, and all of the Court, after pricking her finger on a spindle.

But he did not believe it until he was inside the castle.

Even the bodies of those other Princes caught in the thorns of the rose vines that covered the walls had not made him believe it.  They had come believing it, true enough, but he must see for himself inside the castle.

Careless with grief for the death of his father, and too powerful under his mother’s rule for his own good, he cut these awesome vines at their roots, and immediately prevented them from ensnaring him.  It was not his desire to die so much as to conquer.
And picking his way through the bones of those who had failed to solve the mystery, he stepped alone into the great banquet hall.

The sun was high in the sky and those vines had fallen away, so the light fell in dusty shafts from the lofty windows.

And all along the banquet table, the Prince saw the men and women of the old Court, sleeping under layers of dust, their ruddy and slack faces spun over with spider webs.
He gasped to see the servants dozing against the walls, their clothes rotted to tatters.
But it was true, this old tale. And, fearless as before, he went in search of the Sleeping Beauty who must be at the core of it.

Excerpt 2
In the topmost bedchamber of the house he found her.  He had stepped over sleeping chambermaids and valets, and, breathing the dust and damp of the place, he finally stood in the door of her sanctuary.

Her flaxen hair lay long and straight over the deep green velvet of her bed, and her dress in loose folds revealed the rounded breasts and limbs of a young woman.

He opened the shuttered windows.  The sunlight flooded down on her.  And approaching her, he gave a soft gasp as he touched her cheek, and her teeth through her parted lips, and then her tender rounded eyelids.

Her face was perfect to him, and her embroidered had fallen deep into the crease between her legs so that he could see the shape of her sex beneath it.

He drew out his sword, with which he had cut back all the vines outside, and gently slipping the blade between her two breasts, let it rip easily through the old fabric.

Her dress was laid open to the hem, and he folded it back and looked at her.  Her nipples were as rosy pink as were her lips, and the hair between her legs was darkly yellow and curlier than the long straight hair of her head which covered her arms almost down to her hips on either side of her.

He cut the sleeves away, lifting her ever so gently to free the cloth, and the weight of her hair seemed to pull her head down over his arms, and her mouth opened just a little bit wider.

He put his sword to one side.  He removed his heavy armor.  And then he lifted her again, his left arm under her shoulders, his right hand between her legs, his thumb on the top of her pubis.

Excerpt 3
She made no sound; but if a person could moan silently, the she made such a moan with her whole attitude.  Her head fells towards him, and he felt the hot moisture against his right hand, and laying her down again, he cupped both of her breasts, and sucked gently on one and then the other.

They were plump and firm, these breasts.  She’d been fifteen when the curse struck her.  And he bit at her nipples, moving the breasts almost roughly so as to feel their weight, and then lightly he slapped them back and forth, delighting in this.

His desire had been hard and almost painful to him when he had come into the room, and now it was urging him almost mercilessly.

He mounted her, parting her legs, giving the white inner flesh of her thighs a soft, deep pinch, and, clasping her right breast in his left hand, he thrust his sex into her.

He was holding her up as he did this, to gather her mouth to him, and as he broke through her innocence, he opened her mouth with his tongue and pinched her breast sharply.

He sucked her on the lips, he drew the life out of her into himself, and feeling his seed explode within her, heard her cry out.

And then her blue eyes opened.
