Carol Oates's Iridescent blog tour with AToMR Blog tours!
So, excited to be a part of Carol Oates's Iridescent blog tour hosted by AToMR Blog Tours! Today I have not only a review for Carol's new novel Iridescent but I have a review for the first in the series Ember as well! First up will be my review for Ember cause well, it was the first in the series of course!
BOOK DESCRIPTION
When Candra Ember wakes up in hospital after a dangerous encounter with a red-haired woman, she is shocked to discover that seeing a winged boy wasn't her imagination. Candra is exposed to a world of rivalry and sacrifice she never knew existed, and the aftermath of a war to save humanity thousands of years ago. Soon she finds herself relentlessly stalked by Sebastian, a beautiful and arrogant Watcher Angel and romantically pursued by his darkly seductive rival, Draven. Ultimately, dubious about her own goodness, Candra's very existence compromises a tentative peace in the city of Acheron.
MY REVIEW
First I have to say the covers to this series is simply beautiful without a doubt. Now that I have that thought out of the way on to my review.
Candra has her whole world turned upside down after one encounter that leaves her near death and imagining things while teetering on unconsciousness. Or, is she REALLY seeing things? Candra's whole life is turned upside down and inside out in this paranormal series. She learns that those she thought knew all about are not what they seem nor is she herself it seems! Candra really wants to understand the events unfolding in front of her but always seems to be left in the dark. There are two men in her life now, Sebastian who by his past nature should not want to protect her but feels a since of guardianship for her and Sebastian's rival Draven who wants Candra for himself and his own plans in the world of the Angels. Life for Candra has definitely changed leaving her with a destiny she just can't figure out yet.
For me personally, this book had a lot more potential to it. I really seen this book having a lot more action and suspense in it by the book blurb and was slightly disappointed in how long things dragged on before anyone started giving Candra answers. With not giving Candra answers the reader is also left in the dark making it harder to grasp what was going on in the story and a lack of action to keep me enthralled with the book like I prefer to be. I'm not saying don't read it because this is honestly my main gripe on the book. There's twists, turns and lies or should I say not honestly admitting truth in the story with some hottie characters. This series is full of potential so should not be ignored. Read it for yourself cause hey, it's only one persons opinion on here.
I would rate this on my own level a 3.5, = full of potential but lacking something for me personally.
IRIDESCENT BOOK DESCRIPTION
Candra Ember used to dream of saving the world one person at a time. She never expected to become an angelic weapon and the last hope in the battle against ultimate darkness.
Falling for a Nephilim wasn’t part of Sebastian’s plan. Distraction is something he can’t afford when his rival, Draven, wants what Sebastian has.
Lies, manipulation, and corruption are twisting the lives of the citizens in Acheron. The Arch is missing from Heaven, and a demon is intent on claiming the city. At a time they should be growing closer, grief and paranoia is driving Candra and Sebastian apart.
If the price of restoring the Watchers to Heaven is a human soul, who deserves to be saved?
MY REVIEW
Once again, gorgeous cover! This one is even prettier than the first! Now, I must say. I enjoyed this book more then the first! Candra's life is still spinning out of control and she's trying to make some type of since of things going on in her life. In this continuance of the series all questions are finally answered and you find yourself saying, ooooohhhhh okay I get it now! There's some parts that make you want to reach in and smack the characters upside the head a few times to attempt to knock some sense into them and choices that they make but hey, who am I to say it will or will not work out in the end. There still could of been a little more action in the book but overall it was a nice story of finding out who you really are, facing the world head on, doing what's right and trusting love. The ending had you wide eyed hoping things were not going in the direction it was going after all their trials and triumphs but that's something I can't tell you without giving you a spoiler of the end. Just know, sometimes life does not always work out the way you plan.
Overall rating on this 4 Stars
