ETERNAL DARKNESS
By:Natalie Hancock
Layla, a
twenty-one-year-old half-breed known as a dhampir, is incredibly beautiful and
deadly. She drinks vampire blood for power and to stop the burning hunger.
The vampire
academy is a hundred acres of land surrounded by high tech security to ensure
that none enters or leaves. She is in the protection.
When she has
lessons with the vampires, she struggles with her hunger and has to learn to
trust them—a big issue for Layla because of her past, something she can neither
forget nor run from. The past that haunts her dreams reminds her that she
cannot hide as she lives her life in the academy.
Then there is
Shade—an impossibly handsome vampire and Layla's one-on-one instructor. Desires
she never knew rise whenever he looks at her. She cannot stop how her body
reacts to his touch or how much she wants his body and his blood.
It is a
forbidden lust that they share, one they must keep a secret from those around
them or Layla risks everyone finding out who she really is.
Someone
wants her dead. Layla's goals, deal with the vampires who hate dhampir's and
keep herself alive. Can she do it?
TEASER
“I have a special ability that allows me to
see the past, present and the future. The enemy cannot attack me if I know what
their next attack is going to be and this is what I would like you all to try.”
He turned to me and gestured me forward. “Miss Layla here will give you an
example of what I can do and then she will show you how she can pin me.” I took my shirt off and Diaxon held his hand out for it.
Once I had given it to him, I walked into the middle of the hall and stretched.
Nikalye took off his leather jacket and handed it to Diaxon. He stood in front
of me and bowed at the waist.
I attacked and he twisted around, grabbing my arm and slamming me into the ground. I groaned as he stepped back. I did not expect him to pin me so quickly. I flipped myself to my feet and turned around, kicking out my leg. He grabbed it and closed his fingers around my throat. He turned around and threw me across the room. I turned in midair, landing swiftly on my feet. Nikalye was on me in a second, tripping me up. I swept my legs out, but he jumped over them and backed away. I pushed myself to my feet and walked toward him, running my fingers through my hair and tying it back up. When I got close enough, I punched him and then kicked out when he blocked it. He blocked that also before pushing me into the wall, hard, and then slamming me into the floor where he pinned me.
The room cheered loudly. Nikalye stood and pulled me to my feet and turned to the others once more while I rubbed the back of my head and walked into the middle of the hall.
“Miss Layla could not get a hit on me because her thoughts are not blocked. Now she will demonstrate her skills and she will be the one to pin me.” Nikalye turned away from the disbelieving murmurs and motioned me to him.
I rolled my head on my shoulders before touching my toes. I walked forward and jumped in the air, sticking my left foot out. Nikalye blocked the attack, but I dropped to the floor and spun on my heels, knocking his feet out from underneath him. He fell to the floor, but rolled swiftly to his feet and kicked out. I back flipped quickly and then ran at Nikalye. He tried to grab me, but I twisted out of the way, wrapped my leg around his neck and spun around him, flipping him over. I jumped on him and pinned him...

Melissa's Review
4 Stars
Passion, Lust and Vampires, Yes Please! Eternal Darkness has all three and so much more.
The book centers around Layla. A Dhampir, which is a half human half vampire breed. She is currently being hidden in a vampire academy. The only problem? She feeds off of vampires instead of humans. It takes incredible strength and self control for her to maintain her seemingly care free attitude.
You get to know Layla for a bit and then Shade enters the picture. Now Shade sounds super yummy, so I can definitely see why Layla was so taken with him since they first layed eyes on each other. Their attraction to each other will give you tingles. You can't help but wonder if there is some reason why they are so attracted to each other.
Also we are told a little bit about Laylen's family life. She has her father as her mother has died. And her trusted guard Nikalye. This book has a great story line, as well as some steam to heat things up. I honestly can't wait for the next installment. Would definitely suggest this book as a phenomenal read.
